Mentoring

I recently had the pleasure of working with Molly Denson with Simply M Photography as she is growing her business and sharpening her photography skills.

Thanks to the lovely Avery and her mom, Jill, we were able to spend some time shooting together and talking more about our images in progress. Even the rain didn't put a .. damper .. on the day.

Learning from others and by doing is such an important and ongoing part of our art, and pairing up for new perspectives and guidance is almost crucial with jobs like ours- whether it's from an agency or peers, art directors or professors.

A couple of years ago, I reached out to a consultant for a long list of questions, direction and critique. The investment was paramount to my growth as a photographer and I continue to use what I learned to keep a eye on how I can always improve. A process I will likely repeat in the next year or so.

Ours is a business filled with many paths, and no matter the direction, it is always helpful to listen to someone has traveled a bit more than you.

There are many, many photographers who offer sessions like these. Do yourself a favor (and research) and find someone that will offer you honest feedback and ways you can grow in your craft.
